@snarfed.org@snarfed.org @snarfed sure wish the number of you thinking about this for a while had thought long enough to make it opt in for those interested rather than opt out for those not interested.
@djsundog @snarfed.org [fed.brid.gy] @snarfed
seconded. I'd rather not have my public posts broadcast on ATProto. I would prefer a solution that let me select which of my posts would be bridged (maybe something built-in to my server)
For now though just remove any account called `asonix` from your bridge. They're all me even if most of them aren't active
@djsundog @snarfed.org [fed.brid.gy] @snarfed
also remove assonix@asonix.dog, my AD account. I definitely don't want that bridged
@djsundog @snarfed.org [fed.brid.gy] @snarfed
Here's an idea, how about it listens for the hashtag #BridgeMe and bridges only those posts. That way nobody needs to explicitly opt out and opting in can be done on a per-post basis.
I would actually use that sometimes
@djsundog @snarfed.org [fed.brid.gy] @snarfed
Indeed. Opt-in is the only consent-compatible approach.
@the_roamer @djsundog @snarfed.org [fed.brid.gy] @snarfed Is that default the fediverse & internet should adopt?
As a point of comparison laws and customs around public photography vary across the globe. While taking pics of public property (and the people on it) is generally permissible around the world, there are country- and city-specific exceptions. For example, the UK's anti-terroism law forbids publishing photographs of constables, armed forces, or security services: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photography_and_the_law
@dotproto @djsundog @snarfed.org [fed.brid.gy] @snarfed
Yeah, the laws around photography allow for incredibly invasive practices, some "street photographers" get really close to their subjects, consent or not.
I take photography seriously and I did try my hand at Street too, but it wasn't for me.
Fediverse culture is more like the guy who plants his wooden plate camera on a tripod on the pavement, for all to see, and asks the passer-by whether they'd be willing to pose for him!
@djsundog [toot-lab.reclaim.technology] @snarfed.org [fed.brid.gy] @snarfed [indieweb.social] The entire fediverse is opt-out.
If you'd like an opt-in fediverse I recommend finding or setting up a whitelist instance.
@shiri @djsundog @snarfed.org [fed.brid.gy] @snarfed we're not talking about the entire fediverse, we're talking about this bridge.
