I wonder if you spent some time to manually segment vocals vs. no vocals time periods within a "regular" song, if it could sort of figure out how to interpolate through the part you don't want [which I already forgot as I'm typing this lol]
I guess it depends which is less painful, doing that, or hunting for vocal [instrumental?] parts only...

@djsundog You know back in the day on BeOS, I used an app called SoundPlay that had a plugin that did this in real-time. It worked by comparing the left and right audio channels somehow if I recall.
I used to do this to various songs all the time.
