huh, vultr will allow you to upload a raw image as a snapshot, up to 150gb as long as it uses virtio ethernet and disk, which you can then restore. nice.

this is most interesting because vultr does not charge for snapshot storage and has a good api, so you could probably put together a backup script of a vm anywhere and have it result in there being a vultr snapshot in your account, ready to activate as a failover for some other vm elsewhere, without it costing you hella storage fees. :blobthonkang:

(vultr could start charging for snapshot storage and/or remove their api, pretty much at any time, so don't depend on a third-party as your only backup plan for the long run, tho)
