@brandon something something standardized configuration easier to support something

@djsundog something something I call bullshit on Valve 🙄

@djsundog Listen. If you manage to make it boot with a custom kernel, I will worship you for time being

@marsxyz I will get it booting a custom something or break it into little pieces trying

@djsundog For $2.50, there's not a lot of penalty to trying, lol.

@ocdtrekkie I've voided the warranty on more expensive chocolate bars tbh

@viv @ocdtrekkie steam link is on sale for two bucks and change (plus shipping)

@ocdtrekkie @djsundog sorry I meant the void-warranty chocolate bar specifically

@viv @ocdtrekkie oh, I can't get into that, the kids are still awake

@selea @ocdtrekkie I'm actually considering ordering a few more just in case I hose one

@djsundog Just think, they could've put all that engineering effort into Half-Life 3.

@deadsuperhero instead of a game about freedom they work on locking the free work of others. tragedy, thy name is valve.

@djsundog @deadsuperhero

It's always fascinating to read the periodical writeups of the Valve company culture (especially after the handbook leak) that transformed them from a dev studio at its height after Portal 2 came out to a walled garden vampire that doesn't particularly care what livestock is in the garden since it's an equal opportunity sucker.

@djsundog you should at least tag him @gaben@valvesoftware.com

@djsundog *whispers* break into valve headquarters and steal the keys

@djsundog Let me know if you get anywhere! I messed around with one @lifning bought from a previous sale. You can poke at it via the sshd they ship with it which the SDK (yes it has one) tells you how to enable (it's really easy). I also got Arch running via someone's package that kexecs the new kernel to get around signature verification: github.com/lukas2511/steamlink (check the releases tab if you want something you can pop on a USB stick and just go with)

@djsundog If nothing else, it's fun to laugh at the shenanigans they have going on in their mini-Linux. But if you manage to do anything beyond that, I will be excited. ^_^;

BTW, here's a couple teardowns I found:

@Skirmisher thanks for the legwork! I was just reading through this link ( patchwork.kernel.org/patch/102 ) and it looks like there might be a uart connection on the bottom of the board near the edge that we might be able to leverage...

/* RX/TX are routed to TP50/TP51 on the board. */
