Defining audio types there looks straightforward in enough. What I have no idea how to even begin doing is making it render an <audio> tag in the timeline for inline playback.

@djsundog If I knew how to code it, or knew someone who does, I'd say write it and submit a PR. Working code is a lot harder to ignore.
That said, I've read the rationale in the referenced issue report and I agree with the other commenters that it seems to be a double-standard.
Maybe we need an open Soundcloud-alike that can deliver an oembed back for times like this?
