if you think people go heckin buck wild into discourse about how operating systems use hardware resources like RAM and disk space now, you should have seen the blood feuds declared over those topics when the constraints were a half-million times smaller than they are now.

@djsundog I preferred ksh to bash back in the day because ksh used <32K, bash >64K. Now I use zsh and don't worry about it, but 2-3x as many shells in the same RAM was a big deal on a 2MB machine.
