DJ Sundog - from the toot-lab @djsundog

I wonder if I have the right combination of cable and adapters lying around to connect 25-pin serial to USB :thinkerguns:

@djsundog haha I was just browsing a nearby store's listings because I need to do this too and I know I don't have the bits.

I seem to have stupidly purged a lot of old serial stuff at some point in the past.

@mike I literally bought the very last null modem adapter in Tacoma off a guy who runs one of the last local computer repair shops and it was literally his last, as it came out of his random junk drawer. I gave him ten bucks.

@djsundog turned out around here I can easily get a DB9 -> DB9 null modem cable, but if I want a DB25 -> DB9 (which I do), I'm going to have to get the soldering iron out.

Just cannot find anything premade for the DB25 port on this old terminal. I should count myself lucky they have plenty of the shells and connectors and they're only a couple of bucks each.

I bet I do, which means I should be able to send some programs over the serial port via PIP to play with before my diskettes arrive, but that'll have to wait until tomorrow.

@djsundog the use of PIP in a computer related discussion that pertains to CP/M instead of Python in the year 2018 makes my day! 😊

@msh @djsundog I still can't believe the people that made MS-DOS, in a flash of stupidity, decided to use backslashes instead of forward slashes for path separators, not even thinking we might still be stuck with them almost 40 years later.

@djsundog oh no this is the second time in as many days that the DB-25 has come up

@rey @djsundog Oh hey, an urge to pop into Maplin and buy up all its serial gubbins before the store closes down. >_>

@Jo @rey or get 3d printing cheaper so we can just print ends and pin them out however we need at the moment :thinkhappy:

@djsundog @rey Gods I fucking wish. At least I wouldn't be having second thoughts about cutting up a DB25 into a 23. :blobugh:
